Neutrality Dispute

[edit]

Many parts of this article are, seemingly, written in an excessively positive light. Some portions, particularly the "Economic Growth" and "Coal Industry" sections, seem to not be particularly neutral (Coal Mining, in particular, is lauded in a particularly positive way, in this article; there are many negative aspects of coal mining, none of which are mentioned here. If the positive aspects are specifically discussed, then a counterpoint should serve as necessary for encyclopedic purposes.)

Also, it should be noted that balance is needed as to the overly positive light the current County Judge/Executive is placed. One can almost read an inside political operation to promote the Judge/Executive's high opinion of himself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PatriotBoy521 (talkcontribs) 00:40, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I concur about the coal industry, however, the POV is a 2 way street, assuming that you are correct, you also need to ask, what else,m besides coal, contributed to the growth of the county? IF you find, and you will , that coal was the thing that grew the county, then, IMO, a neutral point of view would state, it was the main growth industry in the county.......As to the politics, that is a thorn in ANY county article, IF the refs given are from a political web site, then I see it, IF presejnted in an unbalanced mannerCoal town guy (talk) 13:56, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't we add Regina, Kentucky (Zip code 41559) to the list of settlements? 98.123.38.211 (talk) 19:46, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a reliable source to show it is or was a populated place? Magnolia677 (talk) 19:48, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Copyedit"

[edit]

@AlsoWukai:, I have to disagree that your edits "improve readability." For one, you've introduced errors such as:

In three of the county's cities in the county

Not to mention this is just very badly phrased (repeating reliably):

Pike County voted reliably Republican presidential elections from 1896 to 1928 under the Fourth Party System, then reliably Democratic in presidential elections from 1932 until 2004.

You denied that information has been removed, but removed the emphasized below from the section on Pike County:

Local politics have been dominated by the Democratic Party throughout its history, while the county has been carried by Republicans in presidential races since 2008

There are several more typos introduced, such as changing there were no Republicans running in the last races for judge-executive and sheriff. in that section to No Republicans rab(sp) in the last races for judge-executive and sheriff.

Don't get me started on all the commas missing from various places due to your edits. Some of your changes may be appropriate, but overall it's not helpful. — The Hand That Feeds You:Bite 21:54, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'll fix those. I didn't remove any necessary commas, though. AlsoWukai (talk) 21:55, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, "while the county has been carried by Republicans in presidential races since 2008" was redundant. That fact is mentioned in the preceding paragraph. AlsoWukai (talk) 21:58, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
