3D-Binary File of the Logo ?
[edit]Hi, i would like to animate your Logo (3D). I can reconstruct the whole Sphere, but if there's a Binary-File (3D Studio, Cinema4D, OpenFX, Povray ...) - would be nice to use. At last - where can i upload the Result and the related 3D-Data at the end ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.190.185.90 (talk) 15:17, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hi,
I would like to request a change of the text of the ceb-wp logo to "Wikipedya, ang gawasnong ensiklopedya" because the correct spelling is "ensiklopedya", not "ensayklopedya" as in the last version. See also my post @ meta. Thanks! --Bentong Isles 14:20, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Can I incorporate your logo?
[edit]I'd like to incorporate the Wikipedia logo into an icon, if that's alright. I'd like to put sunglasses on it to indicate privacy on Wikipedia for the user group {{User pro-anon}}. I think that putting the sunglasses which are currently the icon over the globe would really convey the message. What's more, I already made it. I want to get your OK before uploading it, though. Thanks. P.S. One of your cats shares my last name. -Justin Force 23:28, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Fixed logo
[edit]I saw the article at [1] about errors in the logo, and though I would give fixing them a quick try. What do you think about meta:Image:Wikipedia-logo_thue.png? I just hand pixel edited the logo to resemble the correct version suggested by the New York Times article. Thue | talk 12:12, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- What errors (I was unable to access the NY times article)? Both logos look the same to me, I even noticed an error on the fixed image that is not on the other one. Tcrow777 talk 00:12, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- The Japanese chars just to the right of the top middle needed a vertical line on the first char. And the sanskrit char on the leftmost piece in the middle row was wrong (according to the NYT). The NYT article was available with free registration when I posted the initial comment, but is now only available if you pay for access. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thue (talk • contribs) 20:49, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

New SVG logo
[edit]I thought that I should tell you that I created a new SVG version of the Wikipedia logo, located here. It has a few problems, could you help me with it? Tcrow777 talk 23:22, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- That is why I called it "experimental", it is a work in progress. Did you not read the note or the to-do list on the Commons talk page where I pointed out those problems? Yes, I auto-traced it. I used Inkscape to edit it a litle.
- I am not the first one to point out the inconsistencies between the main page logo and large PNG logo, see it's talk page on Commons.
- So it seems we both already know the problems with the current logo and the SVG one. What can I do to help you? Nohat 04:25, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Can you use Inkscape? I am still very new to it. Feel free to upload a new version of the SVG logo if you want to. Tcrow777 talk 05:10, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- You said "Second, the gradient across the sphere is implemented as a series of overlapping strips of slightly different shades of gray." But the PNG logo dark gray going into almost white, I thought that the SVG was supposed to do the same thing. Tcrow777 talk 05:48, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Catalan dialect examples
[edit]A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Catalan dialect examples, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Fram 09:24, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Wikipedia-banner.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:26, 3 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 18:26, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Pleonastic
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Pleonastic, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Pleonastic seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Pleonastic, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Culogo web 60red.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Culogo web 60red.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Zedla (talk) 00:36, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Hard space
[edit]Hi Nohat. Thanks for your recent pointer at our discussion of markup for the hard space. I do hope you'll join in, and help with this drive for a simple change that will help make editing easier and better. Right now we have to host the discussion at a subpage of a userpage, because anywhere else it's too hard to keep order and focus. But later we want to take this to a much wider forum, and gain the necessary consent of the wider WP community.
Your advice and assistance would be much appreciated!

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Tout, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Speedy deletion of Image:Con-34b.wav
[edit]A tag has been placed on Image:Con-34b.wav requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Image:Con-34b.wav|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit]I've left a couple messages on the logo's discussion page, but maybe I should leave one here too. The problem is that the devanagari script puzzle piece in the logo has been pretty badly mangled by whatever software generated it. [edit]Hallo Nohat, Last December you were so friendly to create the logo for our Saterfrisian Wikipedia: stq:Wikipedia-logo-stq.png. At that time, however, it was not brought by our helpers to the top of the left column, so it can only be found at our page stq: In between we are approaching 400(!) real articles and we found it time now to have the logo moved to its right place. Now, however, some people are complaining about the text Ju fräie Enzyklopädie being unclear. Indeed you can’t read it very good. Love Systems
[edit]Hi Nohat,
I was working on a "company page" and I wanted to make sure several Wikipedia admins would approve the page. Whenever you have time, could you give me some pointers on how to improve the page? The page has to go through a DRV before it can get back up. Any feedback is much appreciated!

Dutch language vowel charts
[edit]Hi, I recently decided to make a vectorized SVG version of this chart of Dutch vowels. I noticed that it had been originally drawn by you (it also indicated that you drew the Dutch diphthongs chart). I was wondering if you could tell me the source or reference that you used for the data in these charts, so that I could include that information in the image descriptions on Commons. Thanks! [edit]Replaceable fair use Image:Eddie_Amador-House_Music.ogg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Eddie_Amador-House_Music.ogg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:16, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
== Chinese character on our logo ==
Recently some Chinese wikipedians can't understand why the rarely used character "袓" was put on our logo, instead of the more common used one, "维", which is also the first char of "维基百科", "Wikipedia" in Chinese. So may I ask if we can change this character to a more suitable one? That is, from "袓" to "维". Best regards. --Jimmy xu wrk (talk) 11:54, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Nohat! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 388 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

AfD nomination of List of names in English with counterintuitive pronunciations
[edit]An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is List of names in English with counterintuitive pronunciations. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of names in English with counterintuitive pronunciations (3rd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:11, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Dull-Bull merger
[edit]Hi Nohat,
Any new findings on the dull-bull merger? Approx. what percentage of the people in your area has it? I have the merger! Originally from upstate NY, moved down to FL still in my preteen years. I've been trying to get /ʌ/ into most words that are supposed to have it, but I still feel a little awkward saying them... especially Hull, Dull, Ultra-, Multi- I used to pronounce most /ʌl/ words with /ʊl/, but some with /əl/ (in my opinion, sounds somewhere in between). I don't think I ever used /ʌl/! I've heard a few instances of the Dull-Bull merger on the radio lately (e.g. the March of Dimes BellyAd Blue ad, "lullaby" is obviously pronounced /lʊləˌbaɪ/ in this ad). I recall you were the first or among the first to suggest and promote using IPA here. If you've not been around, there has been a recent trend to use these ree-SPELL-ing KEEZ, and I wondered what you thought about it. I conjectured a set of principles all wikis should have for using it (IPA issues) - there are lot of criticisms and I seem to agree with a few of them, but the divergence is pretty evident by the above template's choice of an example:
- Worcestershire (pronounced /ˈwʊstɚʃɚ/, WOOS-tər-shər)
The latter is of course just unaccepable, while the original of course seems to have certain orthographical issues. If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Con-58b.wav
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Con-58b.wav requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit]Dear Nohat,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.11.206.39 (talk) 03:37, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
Who to ask for permissions for the Wikipedia logo

I know, you're not holding the rights for the logo, but I currently would like to use the logo for my own wiki project (no, no Wikipedia project), by altering the colors and rearranging it with other components. However, where do I have to ask for permission? I'm only reading that the foundation holds the rights - but how should they be contacted for this purpose? Wikipedia Stories Project
[edit]Hi!
My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.
In my research I found that you were largely involved in the design of the puzzle globe logo, and I'd be very interested in speaking with you about it!
I'd very much like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project.
Thank you for your time,

Non-free rationale for File:The New Tetris.jpg

I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Language-population update project
[edit]Hi. The 18th edition of Ethnologue just came out, and if we divide up our language articles among us, it won't take long to update them. I would appreciate it if you could help out, even if it's just a few articles (5,000 articles is a lot for just me), but I won't be insulted if you delete this request.
A largely complete list of articles to be updated is at Category:Language articles citing Ethnologue 17. The priority articles are in Category:Language articles with old Ethnologue 17 speaker data. These are the 10% that have population figures at least 25 years old.
Probably 90% of the time, Ethnologue has not changed their figures between the 17th and 18th editions, so all we need to do is change "e17" to "e18" in the reference (ref) field of the language info box. That will change the citation for the artcle to the current edition. Please put the data in the proper fields, or the info box will flag it as needing editorial review. The other relevant fields are "speakers" (the number of native speakers in all countries), "date" (the date of the reference or census that Ethnologue uses, not the date of Ethnologue!), and sometimes "speakers2". Our convention has been to enter e.g. "1990 census" when a census is used, as other data can be much older than the publication date. Sometimes a citation elsewhere in the article depends on the e17 entry, in which case you will need to change "name=e17" to "name=e18" in the reference tag (assuming the 18th edition still supports the cited claim).
Remember, we want the *total* number of native speakers, which is often not the first figure given by Ethnologue. Sometimes the data is too incompatible to add together (e.g. a figure from the 1950s for one country, and a figure from 2006 for another), in which case it should be presented that way. That's one use for the "speakers2" field. If you're not sure, just ask, or skip that article.
Data should not be displayed with more than two, or at most three, significant figures. Sometimes it should be rounded off to just one significant figure, e.g. when some of the component data used by Ethnologue has been approximated with one figure (200,000, 3 million, etc.) and the other data has greater precision. For example, a figure of 200,000 for one country and 4,230 for another is really just 200,000 in total, as the 4,230 is within the margin of rounding off in the 200,000. If you want to retain the spurious precision of the number in Ethnologue, you might want to use the {{sigfig}} template. (First parameter in this template is for the data, second is for the number of figures to round it off to.)
Dates will often need to be a range of all the country data in the Ethnologue article. When entering the date range, I often ignore dates from countries that have only a few percent of the population, as often 10% or so of the population isn't even separately listed by Ethnologue and so is undated anyway.
If Ethnologue does not provide a date for the bulk of the population, just enter "no date" in the date field. But if the population figure is undated, and hasn't changed between the 17th & 18th editions of Ethnologue, please leave the ref field set to "e17", and maybe add a comment to keep it so that other editors don't change it. In cases like this, the edition of Ethnologue that the data first appeared in may be our only indication of how old it is. We still cite the 14th edition in a couple dozen articles, so our readers can see that the data is getting old.
The articles in the categories linked above are over 90% of the job. There are probably also articles that do not currently cite Ethnologue, but which we might want to update with the 18th edition. I'll need to generate another category to capture those, probably after most of the Ethnologue 17 citations are taken care of.
Jump in at the WP:LANG talk page if you have any comments or concerns. Thanks for any help you can give!

Preposition stranding ref
[edit]Hello, in this revision, you added a reference:
- Many sources consider it to be acceptable in standard formal English.<ref name="Cutts 2009. p. 109">[[#Cut09|Cutts 2009]].
But there is no further information about what this reference is, other than a last name, a year, and a page number. Can you update the reference with more details? Nohat (talk) 00:17, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- Based on the edit summary, I found the reference on Common English usage misconceptions in the Bibliography section. If there are any other incomplete citations, the details can probably found there. I did a rough copy into preposition stranding; I'm sure there's a tidier way to do that but I'm short on time at the moment. -- Beland (talk) 17:34, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Criticism of Esperanto
[edit]A tag has been placed on Criticism of Esperanto requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. NikolaiHo 20:15, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection
[edit]Hello, Nohat. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins
[edit]Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers
[edit]Hi Nohat.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
[edit]ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
Edits to File:Wikipedia_puzzle_globe_3D_render.zip ?
[edit]@Nohat and Paul Stansifer: I recently printed the model from File:Wikipedia_puzzle_globe_3D_render.zip and I noticed a few differences to the 'prototypical' version used first in 2009. In particular, the lettering is less deep, so that they are hard to see if not also painted (which I think lessens the effect) and the shell is overall thinner. Do you know if it would be possibly to update the 3d model file? T.Shafee(Evo&Evo)talk 04:50, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users
[edit]Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Diego Vega article
[edit]Hi there,
I know you seem super senior and have been around for a long, LONG time, so I am not templating you or anything like that, but just wanted to let you know that the article you brought to the main space on Diego Vega "based on the Dutch article" does appear to need a bit more work, namely in the form of added reliable sources. I know that Onel5969 has already tagged the page for needing as much, but I just wanted to let you know as well. TY — Moops ⋠T⋡ 19:45, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Administrative permissions and inactivity reminder
[edit]This is a reminder that established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period. You are receiving this annual reminder since you have averaged less than 50 edits per year over the last 5 years.
Inactive administrators are encouraged to reengage with the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to be engaged with the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.

Invitation to participate in a research
[edit]Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
